SEND IN THE CLOWNS

Send In The Clowns Canvas

Hi Andy Skinner lovers!
I'm so excited to be back this year on Andy's talented Creative Team. It is a dream come true!

It's a new year and time for lots of new inspiration!  Stay tuned for Andy's new items for 2018 that will be available SOON!  You're going to LOVE them!

To start off the new year, I've created this layered 8" x 8" canvas.  A bit quirky and a bit vintage; I loved creating this piece!

This canvas was created using DecoArt's Media Line of acrylic paints and mediums. First there were layers cardstock, Matte Medium then DecoArt Crackle Paint randomly placed for more or the aged, vintage feel as well as texture and interest. Next COLOR! Lots and lots of layers of color; either brushed on or dripped from the top down using a misting water bottle to allow the paints to freely run down the canvas. They were then heat set and the "Bubbles" of red from Andy's stencil were randomly applied.

Ticket No 337 and the arrows are from another of Andy's fab stencils.  This time, I used DecoArt's Black Gesso for more depth and texture.

The large clown head is an image I found online, sized and printed on regular computer paper on a black and white laser printer.  I used a variation of Andy's transfer techniques to apply the image onto the canvas after creating the background.  You can watch a couple of wonderful videos on Andy's image transfer techniques HERE and HERE.

After the black and white image transfer was complete, it was fun to color the white face using DecoArt's Media Fluid Acrylics.  The skin tones were created using a combination of Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide and Quinacridone Magenta; more magenta on the cheeks.  Both of these paints are semi transparent and are perfect for this technique because they allow the black and white printed image to still show all of the detail! The reddish clown color was also painted using the semi transparent Quinacridone Magenta. I then used a more opaque (but watered down) Cobalt Turquoise Hue for the trim on the ruffled collar and the hat. The eyes were painted with Blue Green Light.

After the clown image was in place and sealed with clear DecoArt Matte Medium, I added more stamping using Andy's very versatile stamp sets and permanent black ink.  The stamps were heat set.  I added a layer of DecoArt Soft Touch Varnish to seal the canvas and then added the beautifully detailed laser die cut vintage bicycle using adhesive pop dots.  The clowns showing off on the bicycle were internet images that I sized, cut out and added using self adhesive pop dots.
